“The Art of Effort”
Every 2 minutes, we take as many photos as ALL of HUMANITY took during the 1800s. On the left is the first photograph ever taken (1826), and on the right is a cat who accidentally took a picture of itself (2013). It’s been reported that in 2015 there were over 1 TRILLION photos taken across the globe (not including photos taken by cats). In fact, 10% of all the photos EVER taken were taken in the past 12 months.
That gets me thinking about value. In the day where everyone has a phone that takes pictures… (sidebar: yes, I just said “phone” and not “smartphone” because who even needs to distinguish the difference anymore?) it’s amazing to me how the value of a photograph has changed.
Why has it changed? If in the 1800s I showed you the photo on the left, you would be blown away! But if I showed you the picture on the right in present day, you’d probably laugh at the picture, walk away, and then forget about it a few minutes later. What’s the difference here? I believe it’s all about effort. The photo on the left took a tremendous amount of effort to create, and the photo on the right LITERALLY took no effort.
I believe that effort is probably THE most underrated thing in this current age. The fact that you can get food delivered to your house so you don’t even have to walk outside, you can change the channels on tv without even standing up, and you can instantly find anything you need to know on the internet… it’s pretty amazing how little effort is needed to do anything nowadays.
The artwork we marvel at in museums are always the ones that obviously took a lot of time and effort. I believe that if you embrace the concept of putting as much effort into something as you can, then it would revolutionize your job, relationships, everything!
When you put ALL of your effort into winning over your spouse and showering them with love, that will change things. When you put ALL of your effort into your job, things will change. Don’t just coast through life on doing the minimum amount of effort needed to survive. Thrive! The more effort you put into something, the more value you will get out of it!
